Engines get hot - very hot.
Combustion gases can reach temperatures of 4500°
F, which must be dissipated into surrounding engine parts. Thus,
valveheads often endure temperatures over 1300° F; heat along
cylinder walls ranges from 300° F to 700° F; the combustion
chamber surface and piston head might measure 500° F.
The need for an engine cooling system to carry
away this intense heat is obvious, and the thermostatically controlled,
pressurized circulation of aqueous coolant fluid through water
jackets in the engine to the vehicle's radiator has been the norm
for decades. Until now, the only generally available freeze-resistant
coolant has been ethlyene glycol (EG), a hazardous substance that
is highly toxic - in fact, fatal if ingested in even tiny amounts.
AMSOIL's proplylene glycol-based Antifreeze and
Coolant is the safe, efficient, environmentally sound alternative
to EG.
AMSOIL Antifreeze and Engine Coolant is
formulated from synthetic 1,2 propanediol (commonly known as propylene
glycol, PG), additized with corrosion inhibitors and antifoam
agents to provide superior cooling characteristics and long-term
cooling system protection for all water-cooled engines.
AMSOIL Antifreeze and Engine Coolant meets
the long-recognized need for a universal coolant fluid, satisfactory
for passenger automobiles, light-duty trucks, recreational vehicles
of all sizes, and diesel-powered semi-truck rigs operating in
all climates - from sub-zero winter conditions to desert heat.
It also serves as an excellent winter-storage antifreeze for inboard
boat motors and RV plumbing systems, and can be used to winterize
vacant cabins and summer homes in frigid climates.
Its aqueous freezing and boiling point characteristics
are similar to those of traditional EG. However, its anti-corrosive
properties (shown to be far superior in industry tests), its FDA
designation of G.R.A.S. ("generally regarded as safe"),
its biodegradability, and its recyclability combine to make AMSOIL
Antifreeze and Engine Coolant the correct choice for personal
health, for the safety of pets and wildlife, for superb vehicle
engine protection, and for planetary ecology. Its distinctive
purple color distinguishes it from hazardous green-dyed ethylene
glycol products.
